Outdoor Fire Pits: Getting to Know Them Better
70Outdoor fire pits are all over the place. They seem to be the norm these days, the main staples in the backyards of many homes.
As you have probably known by now, outdoor fire pits are the easiest way to generate fire in your outdoor spaces. They come in a wide variety of choices, starting from designs, sizes, materials and costs.
While you always have the choice to purchase ready-made designs or one that is custom made, you have to look into a few considerations to make the right choice. After all, many outdoor heating options don’t come cheap and in the end you don’t want to spend your hard-earned cash on something that doesn’t really cater to your needs and preferences.
An outdoor fire pit is very different from gas patio heaters and shouldn’t be mistaken for one. The latter is one that looks like a decorative lamp post and is often powered by gas or electricity. On the other hand, an outdoor fire pit is made available in fuel sources like wood, charcoal, natural gas and propane.
The type of fuel you employ can greatly affect the kind of fire pit you choose in the end, not to mention the effect they give you when used. For instance, a wood or coal fire pit requires a lot of physical labor like collecting, stacking and storing woods or coals not to mention having to start your fire from scratch. On the good side, these types of fuel are relatively very cheap.
On the other hand, gas fire pits once attached to a main gas line can instantly heat up your outdoors in a matter of minutes. They are safe, convenient and practical. They are also considered eco-friendly and are relatively cheap.
If money isn’t an issue, you can choose elaborate designs which outdoor fire pits have a whole lot of choices to offer. You can choose a simple bowl-type that rests on a stand or you can build one yourself constructed from the ground or you can choose an incredibly stylish model. Just be careful though at those offered at very low prices because more often than not, you will also get the kind of quality that you paid for. In addition, be equally wary of ostentatious and flamboyant styles as they also come in extravagant price tags but not necessarily of excellent quality.
Gas versus Wood Fire Pits
Woods are definitely cheaper than gas. This is by far the obvious advantage of wood fire pits over their gas counterparts. Also, people are drawn to the traditional and authentic feel of the fire produced by wood. The crackling of burning woods, the dancing flame and its ever changing hues, all these add to the charm of wood fire pits. On the downside, wood fire pits are notorious for their messy burning residue and other inconveniences not to mention the issue on safety.
On the other hand, gas fire pits are known for its ease of operation, safer burn and clean burning operation. They don’t create smoke or soot and don’t leave any dirty by-products thus don’t require a considerable time for their upkeep.
In the end, regardless of the type of your fire pits, you still have to be properly informed on the basic safety measures to keep you, your property and your loved ones safe at all times.
